Failman

Failman is a type of puzzle game that follows the exploits of a superhero who has trouble doing things the right way.  The game has nice hand-drawn graphics that really fit the superhero theme.  There are basic animations.  There is a soundtrack and sound effects that are appropriate for the gameplay.  A voiceover of someone saying Failman plays at various points.  The production value is good although this game is not what most people are expecting.


You interact with Failman through the mouse.  The only thing you can do is click on the screen somewhere.  Clicking on the screen makes things happen.  You are never really sure exactly what will happen when you click.  This is what makes the game entertaining while also making it a little confusing.  You can never rely on a mouse click doing the same thing twice.

The goal in Failman is to complete a series of levels.  Each level presents a unique puzzle.  There are 20 levels in the game although some can be completed in just a few seconds.  You will see characters, items and buildings on the screen when a level starts.  You are supposed to assess the situation and then click on something to take action.  In the first level, for example, you see a man standing outside an automatic teller machine.  The machine states it has no money.  There is a window leading into a bank on the screen.  You have to click on the window to get Failman to crash into the bank.  Failman then grabs a bag of money and gives it to the person standing outside.  That completes the level.

One of the main weaknesses of Failman is that it is not really a game.  It is more like a series of interactive jokes that you need to click through to get to the punchlines.  Some of the levels are funny since Failman generally solves problems by making things worse.  You do not need deductive reasoning skills to play the game.  You just need to figure out where to click to get the level to progress.  Where you have to click and the things that happen when you click do not always make sense.  Fortunately, a hint system in the game will highlight what to click if you do not figure it out fast.

Failman is entertaining.  Most people will go through the game in just a few minutes.  It does not have good replayability because there is only one solution and one outcome for each level.  If you want to be entertained by some interactive jokes, then Failman is a very good choice.
