Goodgame Studios has done an impressive job with their new beta, Goodgame Empire. The mission of this multiplayer strategy game is to build a castle, gather an army, and fight other players in epic battles in this dynamic world. When done successfully, you can crush your enemies, conquer additional land, and become ruler of the mighty empire.


In Goodgame Empire, the castles are built in real-time. This means that it takes a bit of actual time for you to complete a task and that you spend less time playing the game. Log in for 5 or 10 minutes to perform the necessary functions, and check back on it in a few hours. It is great game for those who don't have large chunks of time to dedicate to one game or for those who want something simple to play on breaks during work.

Part of the simplicity of the game spills over onto the graphics. They are cartoony and easy to stare at for hours. They make be slightly clunky and basic, but they get the job done. However, do not be fooled into thinking that all the graphics and elements of the game are over-simplified. With a bit of searching, you can find alliances and an in-game chat system to amp up the appeal.

Aside from building the castle, there are other tasks that you will need to complete. These include farming, gathering wood, stone, and food for your army and your population. Because of some of the limited resources, you may have to trade to have a balanced collection.

Of course, Goodgame Empire would be pretty boring if it was just random building. The game gives you quests which lead to experience. This experience can then lead to certain types of building and gaining levels. At higher levels, you can recruit stronger soldiers for your army and get closer to ruling the empire.

After you have an army, you can build siege equipment to use when you attack other players. While the actual combat is resolved automatically, the setup and reports have a complexity to them that makes them interesting without becoming daunting.

Goodgame Empire is a great game for those who do not have a lot of time to spare or do not have the attention span that hardcore gamers possess but still want to enjoy decent . The interface is lacking a little, but the nature of the game makes up for that. For still being in its beta stage, Goodgame Empire has a lot to offer.
